Mattthew 19:1-10 (NKJV) Now it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these sayings, that He departed from Galilee and came to the region of Judea beyond the Jordan. And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them there.
The Pharisees also came to Him, testing Him, and saying to Him, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?”
And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who [a]made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to give a certificate of divorce, and to put her away?”
He said to them, “Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for [b]sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery.”
His disciples said to Him, “If such is the case of the man with his wife, it is better not to marry.”
I have struggled with this chapter for a long time… Actually more with the particular verse saying that we’ll basically be adulterers all our lives if we remarry after divorce. Too often we get stuck on a verse and don’t read the entire chapter or at least the verses around that one verse that we keep wondering about.
With all that said I finally got my revelation and download from Papa after wondering about it for so long while cleaning, something He does often lol.
First off all it was the Pharisees that asked Jesus the question about divorce wanting once again to trap Him somehow. They were so self entitled thinking that they can do pretty much anything they want as long as it’s somehow legally done right on paper or what not. That’s why Jesus replied as He did. In simple terms, you guys are horn dogs and don’t care about anyone else but yourselves, however, it’s not like that!
Secondly, this chapter was recorded BEFORE Jesus Christ sacrificed himself for us!
This right here was the biggest revelation for me to realize! Through Christ we are a NEW creation and all sin has been removed. Thus if we get married again, or have lived in sin before and then get married or… whatever the case, I do not believe that we are living in adultery being remarried because we are made new through Him and the ultimate sacrifice He gave.
It saddens me so much to see that we still have to deal with the today’s Pharisees that love to point the finger at someone in a situation like this and thinking themselves holier than thou because they were virgins when they got married and are still married to the same person. Like, seriously people?
How about we start paying attention to the really important stuff in someones life, like the fruit of their labor and seeing the testimonies coming forth from the people they have touched?!
Isn’t it quite interesting how God is using pretty much broken vessels to do some of His greatest work? That’s because broken vessels REALLY appreciate being forgiven and being put together again by the Almighty! Those Yielded yet broken vessels can relate to what others go through and be there for them without judging them. That is soooo huge!

Good word babe! Insightful and a great reminder He is bigger than we know. This all comes down to the heart, which is what is most important to Him anyhow. 🙂
